ADHD can have a genetic basis, and it can run in the family. There is no test to predetermine the chances of having a child with ADHD. We do not know the genes involved with certainty, yet. There can be a few high risk factors (e.g. smoking or stress on the fetus) during pregnancy that can increase the chances of having a child with ADHD, but we do not yet know for certain if they are the contributing causes for ADHD in your child.
